Men's Nutrition – Watching What You Eat
Men's nutrition is the study of the organic processes used when men eat and their ability to use the nutrients that are in food. Men need to take advantage of fitness and nutrition because they tend to have higher cholesterol levels than women of the same age.
So what exactly should you eat? When you eat your meals, it's important to make sure you have a suitable balance of nutrients. You can do this at each meal or look over your whole day to determine your balance.
A Basic Nutrition Eating Guide
Men should make sure that:
- 40% of what they eat are carbohydrates (eg: fruit, veggies and grains)
- 30% are fats (eg: coconut oil, olive oil, real butter, flax oil, and supplement with Fish oils and Omega 3's)
- 30% are proteins (eg: poultry, meats, fish and dairy)
Of course, these percentages can change if you're building muscle or losing weight but essentially, they're based on your daily intake of calories. As you're reading this, find a piece of paper and draw a circle on it. This circle represents a plate that you eat your food on. Next, draw two lines that take up 40% of your circle and meet in the middle. Now, on the side of your circle that you have left, draw another line from the middle of the circle, separating what is left of the circle in
2. This makes two 30% sections.
Most of your carb intake should be vegetables that are either raw or steamed slightly. Include 2-3 fresh whole fruits per day. Occasionally, you should also include starchy carbs like brown rice and whole grain breads. Whenever you can, make sure you have organic products at home, because they are always better for our bodies. You should concentrate on items with thin skins like grapes, apples, and strawberries. Avoid all processed and refined carbohydrates including all sugar/white flour products. So, in the largest section of your circle, put vegetables into portion. Those are your carbs.
Avoid:
- Soy
- Farmed Seafood
- Pasteurized and homogenized milk
Include good source of proteins into your diet, like:
- free-range poultry
- grass-fed beef
- organic free-range eggs
- whole, raw or cultured dairy products
- Low-toxicity seafood
Men's nutrition is extremely important so you should be cautious with what you eat. If you're serious about getting fit, you should write down everything that you eat in a week and sit back and look at it. You'd be surprised to see how everything adds up so fast!
